It definitely is not a simple or static webpage. It is made up of many networks, each based around a company, region, or school. People can only see the profiles of confirmed friends and the people in their networks. Privacy settings can be set at any time to control who can see what on Facebook.
"The Wall is a really interesting place to look for buzz, because when one person writes a post on a friend's or a group's Wall, tens, hundreds, or even thousands of people might see it; those viewers may read, digest, and pass on that information, spreading it virally."
By the way "free-access social networking online utility" is a compound word or complex noun phrase, the center of which is ... what word? Try to untangle the phrase into its components. Let´s see who can get the right meaning.

Interesting, Kelwin. I watched an interview of the guy, Mark Zuckerberg, on US TV and it is quite amazing how it all started. This article is a bit old, in "computer time" (from 2006) when it was still restricted to certain US universities. Thanks for sharing, anyway, as it gives its origin. Profe, me parecio muy interesante lo que publico acerca del uso del facebook, ya que actualmente creo que este esta superando al messenger, ya que s mucho mas facil mantener el contacto y compartir fotos, "gifts" y hasta videos con amigos o familia que no se ve recientemente
Hola, me pareció muy interesante el origen del facebook y me parece increíble el hecho de que la tecnología permite que muchas personas se pongan en contacto con aquellas de las cuales llevan tiempo sin comunicarse. Pude leer el artículo de Claudio Nazoa y me parece muy graciosa la parte en la que dice tenerle miedo a las computadoras.

It is amazing what a social site can do to bring people together through time and space.
I do agree, though, with Claudio. I don´t particularly like the games or "silly" things such as sending virtual gifts and I truly dislike when people I hardly know "poke" me. But it is probably because I am an older person and do not enjoy these gadgets geared to a younger crowd :-(

I love facebook, I wont deny it! jajaja. I don't think that facebook would be better that the messenger but it is growing very fast, just now I was checking my account in facebook and a new window popped in my screen, it said that I would be able to "chat" with my friends who are online, very cool don't you think? But I still prefer the msn, not all of my friends have facebook...
I have been able to talk with friends I haven't seen in a long time thanks to facebook. I have an aquarium, a pet, a lot of quizzes and very crazy things in my profile, I can even listen to music! XDD

Bueno profe si me parece que facebook es una pagina muy bien echa, sobre todo por toda la red que esta echa para que tu puedas ver a los amigos de tu amigos y asi sucesivamente... A mi lo que más me gusta de esta pagina son las aplicaciones (muyyyy divertidas).Y algo que queria agregar que si se pueden hacer todo los albumes que quieras, pero por cada uno solo puedo subir 60 fotos.

me pareció muy interesante toda la información acerca de como surgió el facebook. Lo único malo que le veo a este tipo de páginas es que se vuelven algo adictivas y muchas personas sienten la necesidad de tener que conectarse a estas constantemente.
Hola profe como esta:) me parece un articulo interesante, primero porque es algo actual que todo el mundo usa sin importar la edad y facilita mucho el estar en contacto con personas que hace mucho tiempo que no veias o incluso habias olvidado. Tambien porque presenta facilidades innovadoras q el Messenger no cubre, como el hecho de ver cantidades de fotos rapidamente sin q tengan que enviar el archivo(en algunos casos tarde mucho tiempo), y esto solo por dar un ejemplo. Bueno adioos…

I think facebook is a great tool very interactive. It is very interesting that we can to be facebook developers and this give us acces to facebook's internals and lets programmer create widgets, mashups, tools and projects based around facebook. This characteristic is the more relevant for me because i love the programation.

Bueno, respecto al artículo principal que subió la profesora y al artículo de Kelwin, me parece muy interesante la forma en que el Hobby de un estudiante de Harvard se volvió en pocos años la 2da red más grande del planeta por encima de otras como Msn spaces; de igual manera me parece sorprendente la forma en que Facebook puede mostrarte con mucha acertividad a personas que podrías conocer.
Pero a pesar de lo anterior, me parece que Facebook sigue siendo menos práctica para estar en contacto con tus allegados que programas como el Msn, pues indistintamente de que en días recientes se haya agregado un chat al sitio, este aún deja mucho que desear en cuanto a funcionalidad; de igual manera me parece que muchas aplicaciones del Facebook son un poco fatuas, pero eso ya queda a gusto de cada quien, por lo que opino que facebook es un sitio interesante pero no uno de mis favoritos.
The fever of facebooks is crushing anywhere, the simple case is the consisten sending of e-mails that claim to see photos of many people with the disappoint dream to look for friends or, that is worst, to get an engagement trhough the exposition of few pictures about his/her physical. I don't agree with the "great popular sensation" between the society young and not than young. Sad but true.
Facebook es una página muy divertida, ya que te permite establecer relaciones con personas que tienes muchos años sin ver, además es muy interactiva porque puedes ver las fotos de tus amigos y de las personas que ellos conocen y así aumentar tu red de social, hay gente que llega a tener miles de amigos y para ellos esta página es una obsesión, pasan muchas horas seguidas viendo las fotos y utilizando sus aplicaciones. Vi un programa de TV en el cual dijeron que algunas personas han logrado encontrar a familiares perdidos a través de Facebook, lo que demuestra que tiene muchas formas de ser usada que pueden ayudar en diversas situaciones, aunque sigo prefiriendo el MSN para estar en contacto con mis amigos. De la misma manera me parece impresionante que su creador haya tenido tanto éxito con ella, leí que él se convirtió en uno de los jóvenes más ricos del mundo y parece que seguirá teniendo éxito ya que la página es muy demandada por usuarios de todo el mundo.
Me parece muy buena esta página web ya que te puede ayudar a conocer mucha gente y mantener conversaciones a muy largas distancias sin hacer ningún gasto. También me parece una web muy interactiva y muy fácil de usar, aunque si opino que me parece muy adictiva, ya que conozco muchas personas que se la pasan muy pendiente de eso y llegan hasta deprimirse por los comentarios de gente que ni conocen en persona.
Pero por el resto me parece muy buena ya que puedes llegar a almacenar información. Y me parece muy interesante la forma en que se creo el facebook ya que como toda pagina web famosa empezó como un simple proyecto.

Anyway, I was telling Cristina, Mar�a [Ang�lica, Alejandra, Fernanda], Alejandro, Mponica, C�sar, Karen, Samuel and Tony that you all shared certain views on Facebook but disagreed on other aspects. It certainly is quite creative in the way people interconnect, find each other, post lots of pictures and keep updated on what their friends are doing. On the other hand, it causes addiction, depression in some cases, as mentioned, when getting negative comments from strangers (I just saw a cartoon at blaugh.com about that same idea but with blogs) and there are even courses that study the psychology behind Facebook and what makes it "move" (thanks for the link, Cesar).
I am glad this post generated so much interest and wish this heightened energy is kept throughout the course!!!

Lo interesante de los facebok son la cantidad de opciones que tienen, videos, fotos, textos.... En fin una diversidad de elementos audiovisuales muy utiles para la comunicaión entre divrersas personas, de aqui veo su utilidad. Auque me parece que en la actualidad se utilizan mas como un hobie que como un medio para comunircarce entre las persona y utilizarlo simplemete ara poner foticos con tu novi@ me parece absurdo, es algo comparado con las personas manitica del msn y los spaces
Facebook sin duda alguna cada vez toma mas auge entre no solo la poblacion joven si no todos aquellos q les gueste navegar en la web.. un medio que te permite comunicarte cn personas de todas partes del mundo, interactuar, intercambair fotos y videos, postear, comunicarse de mil y un maneras, y esta en constante popularidad, tanto asi que esta dejndo atras al msn!

La tecnología siempre anda innovando y no es de sorprendernos que cada vez nos facilite la forma de comunicarnos. Lo nuevo es el facebook y como dice Claudio Nazoa en su articulo, es algo que nos invade a todos, nos brinda comunicación facil y sencilla con amistades y familiares sin importar su ubicación, se pueden ver fotogrtafias, videos y muchas cosas, con mayor rapidez.... Facebook is definitely changing communication and people are glued to their computer more time each day, but I feel that some people don´t have much to do, apparently, and keep sending massively pictures, gifts and other stuff which is really a waste of time.
It is OK at the beginning because of the novelty, but I think it is hard to keep up with all the action if you are a busy person who values times.
Well, that´s how I feel. Let´s see how long Facebook lasts ...

As to Facebook and online social tools, one has to know a bit about them to check was is going on first hand. There are many companies abroad that have nets of employees in Facebook and it is a place to locate friends from high school and even pre-school. I don´t like it completely, but I try to know more about it and the effects that it has on people.

Creo que es una de las redes de internet mas efectivas; además, de que, día a día se le unen a ella millones de personas. Según datos hallados en internet se dice que el Facebook se ha convertido en la red social más grande del mundo, superando incluso, al MySpace y al Hi5!! Aparentemente la idea central a nivel social de la creación del mismo, es la ampliación del mercado mundial! Es impresionante como puedes volver a mantener contacto con personas con las que estudiaste en preescolar o con otras con las que pensabas que jamás podrías volver a establecer un vínculo de amistad.

Esta página ha causado sensación en el mundo!! ya que conecta personas que se encuentran muy distantes.. además puedes encontrar personas que pensabas que nunca más ibas a saber de ellas, en general me parece que es una excelente página
Siempre me a parecido impresionante como muchas personas se han vuelo multimillonarias por haber creado una web , ya que cada vez que entramos en la pagina hay publicidad que le genera ganancias al creador de la pagina .El creador del facebook es un ejemplo de esto al igual que los de youtube y google . Algo interesante es que navegador Firefox que compite con el expolorer a logrado mejorarse gracias al dinero que le genera una barra que lleva automáticamente al usuario a google , Amazon , ebay , ect
