This will probably be our last post on evolution, a topic we have learned a lot about but I am sure you must agree we are ready to move on to Artificial Intelligence soon.I wanted to include information sent by Ana Gabriela on Aegyptopithecus and our human ancestry. Solange suggested an article entitled Almost Human about "ecological intelligence which is the name of the theory that some primates, including those of our lineage, have evolved larger, more complex brains because it helped them adapt to the challenges of surviving in a less giving habitat." They mention eating more meat may have played an important role in the evolution of a larger, more sophisticated brain !!!

Finally, in order to wrap up this theme, I wonder if there are any "evolution songs" you can think of. The only one that makes me remember our ancestors roaming through Africa and Europe is again by Metallica. Here you can find the lyrics and here the video. Is there a connection between the lyrics of this song and some ideas on the evolution of man?

La frase de la canción que me interesó por su tono filosófico fue la siguiente: "the less I have, the more I gain", lo vinculo con los arqueólogos y su trabajo constante por conseguir mas allá de lo conocido, pero de todos modos con lo poco que se obtiene se puede lograr cosas verdaderamente sorprendentes. Esto último considerando los hallazgos de fósiles que han podido ser estudiados y reconstruidos para saber cómo fue el rumbo de nuestro pasado.

Interesting, Karen. I had not thought of that idea. The phrase I like best is when it says "where I lay my head is home" as it captures the true spirit of a nomad who has no real home and walks/roams from one area to another with no specific direction in mind. and thanks, ha, ha, about saying I have good taste in music ... many people probably think differently ;-)
Me gusto el viedeo de Lucy y una parte de la cancion q dice: "I adapt to the unknown...By myself but not alone" esto se podria relacionar con la forma en la que el hombre ha evolucionado adaptandose a nuevos ambientes y situaciones.

es cierto, probablemente durante la evolucion el hombre estaba solo tratando de adaptarse hasta que desarrollo el sentido social y empezo a actuar en favor al grupo y no como individuo solamente

Respecto a la canción me pareció muy interesante la frase que dice:

Me hace pensar en lo que hizo a la evolución del hombre la más exitosa de todas, el hecho de que fue capaz no sólo de adaptarse a medios difíciles, sino de adaptar dichos medio a sus necesidades
me gusto el video, especialmente el tema de evolucion d esta parte de trimestre me llama mucho la atencion..me impresiono lo cercano que heron los homsapiens y los neardentales a nosotros (pensaba que habian existido muchisimos millones d a;os atras).. tambien me mpresiono lo habiles que eran cuando en el video dicen que utilizaban y haian sus propias herramientas y que ademas estabn muy bien ubicados geografcamente
aceca del video de lucy me sorprendio lo cercano del hallazgo de este fosil, segun el video fue en 1974, lo cual es bastante actual por decirlo asi..me dio la sensaciond e que todavia qued amcho por descubrir, y mas teorias por confirmar!
En el primer video se pude entenser que mientras en Europa sxistían los neardenthales, en Àfrica surdió una especie paralela de homos, esta vez los homo sapiens. Casa unos con sus culturas diferentes. Los homo sapiens se fueron expandienso por tosa Europa y en algún momento estos sustituyeron a los neandertales.
En el segundo video me llamó la atención como lucy muere y sus restos se convierten en fósiles, cómo la naturaleza fue haciémsose parte de la estructura de Lucy y como los sedimentos la cubrieron por miles de años.

En cuanto a la cancion de Metallica, me parece excelente :P trata un tema nada comun para las canciones, asi como tambien me agrada bastante musicalmente!

Well, I really like the two videos, especially Lucy's video. I think she had an heart attack, well it looks like it xD.
And about the song, the part I most like was "Anywhere I roam, where I lay my head is home". As Berta said before, its like a person who doesn't has a real home, who travels alot and any place they are is their home.
hola! la letra de la cancion me gustó mucho porque en cierto modo refleja el recorrido del hombre por el mundo y su necesidad de adaptarse a los lugares que va, y la importancia que tiene para la humanidad que el hombre ha desarrollado la capacidad de hablar y razonar.
ES impresionante como un fosil puede esar tanto tiempo "escondido" y aun estar "completo", a lo mejor quedan aun muchos fosilespor descubrir en los lugares mas reconditos del planeta..
Y respecto a lacacio me gusto mucho esta frases me parece q se relaciona mucho con la evolucion del hombre y como este convierte a la tierra en mas que en su hogar sino en un lugar donde creer poder controlarlo todo

El video de lucy m parecio muy exolicativo y creo q puede dejar claras muchas de mis duas, muy interesante de vrdad porq en clase no lo habia entendido del todo bien. sobre el video musical hay un a parte de la cancion, q no recuerdo bien XD q habla sobre la capacidad del hombre a adaptarse a sus necesidades, muy buena la cancion
los videos son muy interesantes y son de lo mismo de las lecturas de la clase lo cual me parece muy bieen, porq se aclaran mucho mas todos los textos da la guia. Si todas las lecturas tuvieran un video seria lo mejorr... jajaja mentira mentira también hay q leer. Bueno la canción es muy buena, habían partes q no entendía pero busque la letra y la escuche bien. No sabia q Metallica tenia canciones relacionadas con los temas q hemos visto en todo el trimestre pero q bien!

I am also a very audiovisual learner, so don´t feel bad, Alejandro. We have to read in life, but an audiovisual aid can help us out a lot.
Youtube has helped us out a lot. There is a lot of garbage one finds in it, but there are many other videos from prestigious organizations such as National Geographic or research institutes and universities.
As to Metallica, I have never found one of their songs about computers or A.I., but I am glad there is one related to the universe and another less directly related to evolution, but one can use one´s immagination ha, ha ;-)

De verdad que me pareció muy interesante el video de Lucy, ya que todavía no podemos decir si sufrió de una muerte violenta o no, me imagino que con el avance del tiempo y la tecnología se podrán descubrir este tipo de detalles. También me llamó la atención que hayan tenido que pasar tantos millones de años para que se pudiesen encontrar sus restos.
Holaa de nuevoo! =) me parece que este ha sido uno de los post mas interesantes que la profe ha publicado!!.. bueno puedo decir que el video de lucy realmente me sorprendio! no pensaba que ese fosil hubiera sido descubierto hace tan poquito tiempo! no recuerdo el año, pero se que era reciente.!
Tambien me llamo la atencion, el hecho de que, a pesar de que han pasado muchisimos años aun el fosil estuviera casi completo y en excelentes condiciones!-> IrisS.! =)
